The Government House School Gardens Programme was the brainchild of Governor of Bermuda George Fergusson's wife Margaret in 2012. Thanks to the generosity of the current governor John Rankin the programme continues following their departure from the island at the end of their term in 2016, beginning its 6th year in mid-October.  Nine Garden Club mentors have committed to helping the students and teachers from Northlands, West Pembroke and Victor Scott Primary Schools on Wed, Thurs and Fri. afternoons. The program is now affiliated with the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and the Garden Club was asked to contribute a short feature article about the program to the RHS monthly publication “The Garden”.

Schools Garden Garden Club organiser and mentor Anna Fulton reports:

The 2017-18 Schools Garden program culminated in a 'cookout' celebration this month (May) of harvested produce.

This was Charlotte’s (wearing a hat) final day.  Her contribution to the Programme is difficult to measure.

She took the mentor’s role to new heights bringing both her teaching skills and gardening expertise to this combined Government House, Garden Club and school  venture.

She has been mentor to two schools - Dellwood and Northlands.

She organized two lunches today back to back for Dellwood, seen here, and Northlands (photos to follow) Dellwood brought along a little stove to cook their harvested produce on.  The students and their teachers expressed their thanks to Charlotte and told her how much she will be missed when she leaves next week, as crew, sailing to the Azores and afterwards to Ireland.  Our thanks are also extended to Mentor Becky Zuill (on right) who will we hope will be back mentoring when the Prog resumes in early October For now Good luck Charlotte and thank you!
