History of WAFA

WAFA first took root in the United Kingdom in 1972, when members of the "National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies"(NAFAS) of Great Britain decided to create an international federation that would represent all floral arrangement societies in the world. NAFAS created the position of "International Affiliates Chairman" to head the effort. Some of the members who held this post later served on the first WAFA Committee. NAFAS further deepened its overseas relationships in 1978 by holding an International Course in Su8ssex. The following year, a letter outlining proposals for a World Association went out to members, and in April 1980, those proposals were approved. WAFA officially formed during a second meeting in June 1981, with delegates and observers in attendance from 20 countries. This meeting was held in Bermuda. Today WAFA has 30 member countries that take turns hosting WAFA's international activities.

The Garden Club of Bermuda is pleased to advise that Debbie Burville has been appointed to the WAFA Coordination Panel for 2014-2017 as a non-host country representative.
