The following details awards given out at our AGM in May each year. Commencing 2012/13 awardees will be listed - please click on the links above.

FLOWER BENCH

BETTY BALL CHALLENGE TROPHY: Presented in 1982 at the bequest of, and in memory of, Mrs. Percy Ball. Awarded to the member gaining the most points throughout the year for roses on the Flower Bench, provided that at least twenty-five percent of those points were gained for Old Garden Roses.

SPECIALS AWARD: Presented to the member gaining the most special awards on the Flower Bench during the Garden Club year.

CHRISTIANA S ZUILL AWARD: Presented in 1995 by Joyce and William Zuill to commemorate the lifetime interest in ferns and gardens of Christiana S. Zuill. Awarded to the member gaining the most points throughout the year for Potted Plants on the Flower Bench.

BUTTONWOOD AWARD: Presented in 2004 by Michael and Janet Owner in memory of her parents Harry Oakes and Florence Johnson Wakely. Awarded to the member gaining the most points throughout the year for Annuals.

BETTY BLOSSOM SILVER SALVER: Awarded to the member gaining the most points on the Flower Bench throughout the year.

FRUIT AND VEGETABLE BENCH

THE TUCKER BOWL: Presented by Mrs. Edmund Zuill and Mrs. Warner Gardner in memory of their mother, Mrs. William Tucker. Awarded to the member gaining the most points throughout the year for vegetables and herbs on the Fruit & Vegetable Bench.

VIRGINIA O COOPER BOWL: Presented by her family in 1990, in memory of Virginia Outerbridge Cooper. Awarded to the member gaining the most points throughout the year for fruit on the Fruit & Vegetable Bench.

SPECIALS AWARD: Presented to the member gaining the most special awards on the Fruit & Vegetable Bench during the Garden Club year.

MRS JOHN BLUCK TROPHY: Presented in 1977 by Mrs. Joy Bluck Waters in memory of her mother, Mrs. John Bluck. Awarded to the member gaining the most points throughout the year on the Fruit & Vegetable Bench.

FLORAL ARTS BENCH

MARY POPE AWARD GLASS VASE: Presented by Mrs. Cecil Pope, founder president of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies of Great Britain (NAFAS). Awarded to the member gaining the most points throughout the year on the Floral Arts Bench.

VERONIQUE DUTFIELD AWARD: Presented in 1989 by Mrs. Dutfield when she was leaving Bermuda. Awarded to the beginner gaining the most points on the Floral Arts Bench.

INTERNATIONAL DESIGN SYMPOSIUM FOUNDER'S AWARD: Presented in 1984 by Mr. Kenn Stephens in recognition of the support and leadership of the Garden Club of Bermuda in the founding of the International Design Symposium. This trophy is competed for in a designated month (see schedule) and is awarded for superior design in the arrangement of flowers, foliage and fruit. Dried or painted material may be used.

MARY MARGARET DILL AWARD: Presented in 1987 by friends of Mary Margaret Dill in her memory. This is competed for in a designated month (see schedule) and is for foliage arrangements only.

THE BERMUDA TROPHY: Presented by Mrs. Elfrida Chappell for an exhibit of plant material and flowers all grown in Bermuda.

THE INTERMEDIATE TROPHY: In memory of Michael Owner. Presented to the member gaining the most points throughout the year in the Intermediate Class on the Floral Art Bench.

PLANT EXCHANGE BENCH

GLADYS HUTCHINGS TROPHY: Presented in 1977 by the Nat Hutchings family in memory of Miss Gladys Hutchings. It is awarded to the member who gained the most points on the Plant Exchange Bench during the year.

CONSERVATION

PAT SHUTTER AWARD FOR THE PROMOTION OF CONSERVATION OF BERMUDA'S ENVIRONMENT: Presented in 1991 by the Executive Committee of the Garden Club of Bermuda in recognition of the outstanding contribution Pat Shutter made to the Club during her years as a member and during her presidency, 1989-1991. Awarded annually to the individual who has made notable contribution in the field of conservation.

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION

KATHERINE CUTLER AWARD: This award is being retired and will be hung in the Garden Club Office. It will be replaced by the Philip Woolf Plate.

PHILIP WOOLF PLATE: Presented by Philip Woolf in 2010. Awarded to the member, exclusive of officers, who has made an outstanding contribution to the Garden Club work during the past year. This individual is to be chosen by the officers.

THE PRESIDENT'S AWARD: Presented by Deanna Moss and awarded to the member chosen by the President in recognition for and in appreciation of the member's assistance.

COMBINED BENCH AWARD

WINNIE WALKER BOWL: Presented in 1967 by her many Springfield friends in memory of Winifred Lowry Walker. It is awarded to the member who has accumulated the highest total of points on the Flower Bench, the Floral Arts Bench, the Fruit & Vegetable Bench and the Plant Exchange Bench during the Garden Club year. Such member must have exhibited at least three times in three of the four Benches.

Note: The annual awards may only be awarded to resident Garden Club members and are not to be taken out of Bermuda.

General Meetings are held on the second Friday of each month, October through May at 10.30 am - see website for address details and date confirmation. There are regular floral workshops, garden workshops, competitive bench exhibits and an annual fund-raising event.

The first meeting for the 2017-2018 year, was held on October 13, 2017. There was a lovely Floral Art Bench of all foliage designs the Vegetable Bench had a large selection fruit and the Flower and Foliage bench had a great fall display. An exciting Photography display was enjoyed by all. The Plant Exchange had lots of goodies for members to take home and the Shop was opened along with refreshments for the members.
We welcomed the Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col. the Hon. David Burch and Roger Parris head of the Skills Development Programme. Roger Parris thanked us for our support and involvement in the Skill Development Programme and Col. Burch also thank us and told us government is committed to the program and would like to see it expanded
Debbie Burville and Susan Conyers were the presenters and talked about the history of WAFA, their experience judging at the WAFA Barbados Show and the design they created for Bermuda’s Honorary Exhibit at the Show along with a slide show of designs at the show
